It's All About Education
Seattle Genealogical Society strives to provide educational resources that can be found in the collective knowledge of our members and entire genealogical community. Nearly every week there is a variety of programs and workshops available to the public at the SGS Library or other locations in the Seattle area as well as our growing number of classes held online by local experts. Check the Calendar of Events for details about upcoming programs from other organizations around Puget Sound.
Programs, Classes, Workshops...
SGS presents a variety of programs to guide the family historian at all levels of experience to open up new generations to explore. How to's, tools, resources and demographics are just some of the educational topics addressed. Programs are usually held at the SGS Library, but some may be presented at other libraries and archives in the Seattle area. Watch for Pop Up Programs that are presented online! Check the Calendar of Events for all upcoming programs.
Special Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups, or SIGs, pool the collective knowledge of all participants through discussion and interaction. SGS has an assortment of SIGS for tools, DNA and specific regions of interest. Learn more about the individual SIG's and check the Calendar of Events for upcoming meetings.

Special Programs
Second Saturdays at SGS are currently held virtually via Zoom at 1PM on the ... you guessed it ... second Saturday of the month, September through May. Speakers present a lecture followed by a question-and-answer period. Some presentations may be recorded and available to members on the website for up to a year. Check the Members Home page of this website for recordings.
Brags and Bricks is a weekly virtual gathering for genealogy-related (usually) chat. Participants share their recent successes (Brags) and problem areas (Bricks) in a casual setting. We meet every Monday from 10 to 11:30. Pets welcome.
In response to numerous requests, SGS has reinstituted Tech Tuesdays, the popular, informal consult time on DNA, hardware, software, and virtually any genealogy-related issues. These occur virtually the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. All are welcome, especially beginners. No appointment necessary; drop in any time between 10 and 11AM. No guarantee we can solve your problem, but we sure will try.
Something Old, Something New, more commonly know as Virtual Sundays, features a presentation followed by Q&A. The Good Shepherd building is closed Sundays, so this event will always be held virtually via Zoom at 1PM (Pacific) on the third Sunday of the month. Speakers may repeat (or revise) a tried-and-true lecture or test a new venture and ask for feedback from participants. Either way, it's bound to be illuminating.
